We are rather familiar with Boston-based songstress Jodi Heights. Featuring her previous single ‘I Took a Swim with Evil’ earlier this year, we proudly declared it “incredibly lush and evocative”. We stand by our words: built on jazz stylings and soulful tones, the record was incredibly elegant and luscious. Now, Heights unveils another piece of her eclectic artistry with new single ‘Blackbird’.
Borrowed from The Beatles’ extensive catalogue thanks to Heights’ excellent taste, ‘Blackbird’ still finds its roots in Jazz, especially in the choice of instruments and arrangements, yet it boasts a wider range of action, bordering classic pop and soul territories, especially in the song’s lyricism and vocal performance. Of course, the outro’s immersive piano solo reminds us of the goalpost: hypnotising musical offerings blessed by Jodi’s vocal catharsis.
Taken from the project’s upcoming album ‘Nocturne’, ‘Blackbird’ was recorded at Futura production, and facilitated by Grammy-nominated engineer John Weston.
