A triumph of orchestral tones and classic elegance, a nuanced and incredibly soothing listening experience. Honestly, it took us a while to put pen to paper. We were simply hypnotized by the beautifully soft arrangements contained in ‘Clan’, a composition by Joanna Borrett with a sharp focus on the Scottish Highlands and its folk roots.
A blend of strings accompanied by an elegant piano reveals a sonic picture that’s rewarding and evocative, detailing ten stunning string orchestra movements all sharing various degrees of poignancy and honesty. The underlining composition seeks to re-enact the story of a Highlands clan, following it through its success and demise.
‘Clan’ has made its live debut at Birmingham’s Elgar Concert Hall on February 24th, masterfully performed by Her Ensemble, an all-female strings collective. The keen reader might be interested in keeping an eye on Joanna Borrett’s channels for an upcoming performance in April.
