JesseMelancholy Unveils Visionary EP ‘does the skin i wear define me?’

The keen reader might remember reading about JesseMelancholy’s ‘wings’, a stunning single we proudly described as “a dynamic and futuristic mainstream anthem with a distinct hyperpop character and a healthy amount of leftfield electronica”. The song was building up the project’s expansive EP ‘does the skin i wear define me?’. The record is now out, and we are happy to present it to you all.

Reiterating JesseMelancholy’s visionary artistry, the EP is exactly what one would expect from the Aussie trailblazer. A bold, lush blend of hyperpop-tinged anthems, eclectic productions and catchy melodies, with the occasional acoustic guitar thrown in for good measure – see ‘blister’, for example. An acoustic gem which eventually explodes into metal and sludge territories. That’s what we most appreciate about Jesse: his ability to abstract compositional formulas, creating a personal and quirky sound that’s both futuristic and rooted in tradition.

Pitched-up, autotune-heavy vocals are a perfect match for such a brilliant record, especially when joined by relatable and friendly storytelling. In a way, ‘does the skin i wear define me?’ is a smart way of sending sensible and common lyrical messages in an uber-cool sonic livery. This makes the project suitable for a large audience, while making it stand out among the ocean of new music.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the EP, JesseMelancholy explains: “It explores identity struggles, grappling with self-hatred, fear of past mistakes, and lingering insecurities.”
