A step closer to the release of his upcoming EP ‘does the skin i wear define me?’, Aussie creative and sonic explorer JessieMelancholy unveils his latest effort, ‘wings’, a dynamic and futuristic mainstream anthem with a distinct hyperpop character and a healthy amount of leftfield electronica. While some of the references are quite alternative, the end result perfectly fits the modern pop landscape, especially echoing cultural icons such as Charlie XCX and the whole PC Music crew.
What’s interesting is the punchy and fuzzy energy that transpires from the chorus, a section where ‘wings’ turns into emo-rap territories, showcasing JesseMelancholy’s eclectic vocal prowess, truly evocative and technically proficient. Drenched in autotune and glitchy effects, the Adelaide-based talents dances on an ever-evolving beat with confidence and charisma, pushing further the quality of his artistic output.
