JesseMelancholy Screams His Angst into Evocative Banger ‘Wake Me Up’

Part of the new charge of Australian young talents, JesseMelancholy is a much-needed breath of fresh air in an over-standardised industry, showcasing how it is time for a generational change. The Adelaide-based singer manages to craft a highly personal style, equally drawing from pop, electronica and hip-hop. Don’t call it hyperpop: “Some may label my music as “hyperpop” yet I’d like to think I draw a lot of other influences that set me apart”. Indeed, Jesse. Take for instance ‘Wake Me Up’, his latest effort. The sonic reference is much heavier, balanced between the poignancy of emo-rap and the wittiness of indie-pop. Eventually, it turns into its own thing, setting the cornerstone for a successful career.

At just 19 years old, JesseMelancholy has been making music for over 3 years, building a baggage of experience in the process. It certainly shows, with ‘Wake Me Up’ encapsulating hypnotising energy. Perhaps it’s the young talent’s vocals, so expressive and evocative, almost screamy at times. Or, the track’s production, very dynamic and constantly evolving.

We are blessed to witness an artist who is not afraid to experiment with new sounds and push the boundaries of conventional music. He has already achieved so much in his short career, and we can only imagine what else he has in store for us.
