Jenny Maybee? More like Jenny Ofcourse! Having recently released a cinematic-driven, evocative and haunting piece, – ‘Holy Holy’ – the Californian songstress is now reaping the benefits of her nuanced artistic work, wrapping the listeners in limitless emotional energy and understated euphoria. Teaming up with visionary producer Isha The Mad Scientist, Maybee delivers an impactful effort, oscillating between hard-hitting percussions and cathartic, liminal textures.
Also a gifted composer and arranger, Jenny first wrote ‘Holy Holy’ as a simple acoustic gem, then sculpted a stream of orchestral lusciousness around it. It all works extremely well, with Maybee’s majestic vocals giving a certain Sam Smith’s ‘Writing on the Wall’, James Bond-Esque character (or Adele’s ‘Skyfall’, as mentioned by the artist herself). Deeply melancholic and gloomy, the piece rises to an anthemic resolution thanks to Isha’s striking sonic energy, also helping Jenny Maybee’s vocal harmonies find their best foot forward.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the composition, she explains: “This is a song that was written as life burned to the ground and required leaving behind the old person, the old life, but moving forward into the new with a renewed sense of purpose, hope, and power. As life burns to the ground, sometimes you have to bury the old version of yourself to step fully into the new one.” A slow-burn journey towards healing and resilience.
