Jeezel Petes Debuts with Kaleidoscopic and Nuanced EP ‘Missed It’

Descending into Jeezel Petes’ sonic territories is a haunting, hypnotising trip: one worth taking. Balanced over post-punk stylings and math rock formulas, the project seems to gravitate between such industrial, noisy vibe and more eclectic sections, where Petes’s lead vocals flourish in a more positive tone, even if just for a moment. Is this ambivalence between dark and light that greatly characterises the project, a constant tension and resolution that keeps the listeners’ attention.

Emerging from Chicago, Jeezel Petes is just another pseudonym of talented newcomer Cam Cunningham, a talented musician and composer with a knack for versatility and wide cultural references. You can admire his work on the project’s latest release, the double single ‘Missed It’. We stand behind our words, highlighting the dualism between light and gloom. If ‘Missed It’ navigates rather obscure paths, ‘Waiting On’ engages in more breathable and kaleidoscopic fusion rock, blending jazz and psych stylings in the process.

Notably, ‘Missed It’ is set to be the first of 5 EPs to be released this year, signalling impressive productivity from the American newcomer. Also, the project was funded by a very generous grant from the city of Chicago’s DCASE.
