jazzygold unveils glorious, soulful EP ‘it’s been a while’

‘It’s been a while’ wasn’t born out of a vacuum. Rather, it is the culmination of two years of hard work paired with pure, unfiltered artistry. That’s how jazzygold conquered our musical hearts, sharing her honest, evocative and elegant R&B explorations framed into a contemporary sonic livery. After having released a string of singles in the past few months (including the anthemic, glorious gem ‘homerun’), the Faroese songstress now unveils a bold, striking EP, a record that speaks volumes about her rich, multi-faceted artistry.

Opening with the bombastic, synth-lenient gem ‘welcome to my head’, jazzygold gives the EP a notable aural livery from the get-go, before diving into the aforementioned ‘homerun’. ‘ex-friends’ threads more carefully, embracing a haunting, sultry outlook that works perfectly with jazzygold’s evocative, luscious vocals. Lyrically, there are no mysteries here: simply, a recollection of the talented creative’s personal dealings with life, exploring growth, attraction and resilience.

Follow-up ‘here for the ride’ gets emboldened by a quasi-tropical, bouncy beat, contrasting beautifully with the mellow and emotional piano chords in ‘we’re alright’. ‘gold’ takes the EP to a close in soul-pop fashion, showcasing once again jazzygold’s proud, fearless artistry.

Overall, ‘it’s been a while’ it’s a record that stands up on its own. It doesn’t need outside influence or over-inflated hype statements: simply, it’s a beautiful slice of contemporary music.
