Oh, how I’ve waited for this day! At the end of last year, I fell in love with a tune called ‘day off’. Courtesy of Faroese vocalist and R&B star Jasmin Mote, AKA jazzygold, the breezy and soulful track is one I find myself returning to often. I did, however, start to wonder…Where has jazzygold gone?
Thankfully, at the end of August, jazzy returned with an absolute banger in the form of ‘homerun’, a rich and infectious soul-pop offering that wraps you up in a warm sonic blanket. From the dark and weighty drum work to the shimmering keys and inventive synths, ‘homerun’ strikes with pure elegance, making it impossible to not sway along as it effortlessly unfolds. And, as for jazzygold’s vocal performance…it’s a velvety and honeyed performance that is just perfection.
A deeply personal song for Jasmin, ‘homerun’ tells the story of growing up as a brown girl with curly hair in a predominantly white neighbourhood. “I’ve wanted to write ‘homerun’ forever, but I never felt ready to share my story until now,” she says. “After creating this beautiful song, I’ve never been more ready to reveal these layers in front of me”.
Accompanying the new single is a stellar music video filmed in jazzy’s first childhood home and featuring her old brother and sister. We are proud to share it with you below!
