There’s a lot to unpack in ‘Tripletazo #2 Con Tu Amor’. An incredibly eclectic EP, the record contains three playful, uplifting songs drenched in Latin flavourings, hip-hop phrasing and veiled rock energy. Behind such nuanced work, we find Javi Carabalí, talented composer and guitarist hailing from Bogotà, Colombia.
In ‘Tripletazo #2 Con Tu Amor’, Carabalí teams up with a plethora of creatives and collaborators. Laoma Chavaco is a welcome guest on ‘Con Tu Amor’, opening the record with an energetic and bouncy piece which surprisingly holds a great deal of Afrobeat influences. Yet, one can instantly notice the artist’s own Colombian flair emerging from it – the perfect blend of local influences and global references.
‘Primavera’, featuring Lalie, embarks on a Carlos Santana-esque slow ballad with tons of sultriness and evocative character. Here we can also appreciate Javi’s guitar prowess – he’s a fantastic musician. ‘Gris’ brings the record to a close, using contemporary reggaeton grooves and distinctively pop vocals. What more could you want? It’s an EP worth discovering: playful, intense and colourful.
