If you think Jared Deck’s music is good, wait to hear about his origin story, the sort of tale that would make for a good movie script. Going from a blue-collar worker to being a Democratic Oklahoma State Representative, Deck is the living proof of the social mobility concept. Rallying support around his political action while growing his artistic project, one can clearly see how the two things go hand in hand.
Sensibility is always present, whether it manifests through community action or Country and Americana musical stylings. ‘Head Above Water’ is Jared’s latest album, the first to be released since 2019. In it, the keen listeners will familiarise themselves once again with Deck’s charming and confident brand of acute and honest songwriting, often empowering and based on first-hand experiences.
Featuring fellow musicians James Cook, Dan Walker, and Jake Simpson, among others, the record also sees Dwight Hamlin in the producer’s chair – the result is nothing short of impressive, and certainly a great record for any newbie to the project.
