It is good to keep Janna Pelle’s latest album refreshed. ‘Echolocation’ has been out for a few months already, a glorious record we so eagerly wrote about. Back then, we proudly declared: “A tale of human fragility, ‘ECHOLOCATION’ seeks to enhance the various stages of life, presenting the listeners with a complex, intense and kaleidoscopic journey through challenges, achievement, conflicts and love. Sonically, the release is as wide as you would expect from a resourceful musician like Pelle.”
Shifting the focus to the title track, one can grasp the heartfelt songwriting so often used by Pelle. ‘Echolocation’ is a response to Pelle’s late father’s favourite quote – “You only live once – but if you live right, once is enough” – while coming to terms with his own death. The song attempts to reach her him, while seeking guidance and approval. Sonically, Pelle champions a slow, quite ethereal ballad, perfectly at home with the fragile lyrical material.
