Earlier this year, Alt-rock outfit Jane N’ The Jungle was busy releasing ‘Ocean Creatures’, a 5-track EP that we had the pleasure of featuring on our blog. Writing about the release, we proudly declared: “It should really be noted how excellent of a vocalist Jordan White is, as her voice is consistently captivating throughout the whole EP, especially in these high-demanding songs.” After a short break and a couple of singles later, the Arizonians return with what feels like one of the fiercest records they have ever done.
‘Raw as a Jewel’ is a complex animal: while exuding punchy energy and gritty guitar riffing, the track also contains a certain introspective outlook and a haunting vibe, as if Jane N’ The Jungle were fighting with their inner demons in a glorious, deadly battle. They seem to be winning it, by offering the listener a slice of sonic heaven, augmented by White’s sensational vocal qualities.
Lyrically, the track seeks to explore the relations between desires and social codes, empowering the listeners in pursuing their dreams no matter what. Marking the group’s first release with Cleopatra Records, the track is definitely a precious showcase of what the Arizona residents can offer, navigating their own artistic avenues balanced between alt-rock perfection and grunge-infused raw power.
