A soothing, evocative piano soundtrack? Count us in! Simple, yet very effective. Take, for instance, ‘To the One I Love’, a stunning, elegant piano piece composed by American musician James Shumway. A relatable, pop-oriented effort, the record is approachable and familiar, sharing heartwarming melodies and an emotional message, mainly revolving around romantic love and the connections between humans.
A keen classic composer, Shumway has been at it for a long time, initially approaching piano studies at age 6. Writing music at age 9, the American visionary has now bloomed into a fully-fledged creative entity, as ‘To The One I Love’ clearly showcases. Past efforts, such as ‘IOU’ and ‘Regrets’, follow the same theme, both intensely romantic and nostalgic.
‘To the One I Love’ ships with a bucolic and visually rich music video, filmed in beautiful Aspen Grove, Utah, with the peaks of Mount Timpanogos in the background. It was shot by Nick Sales, who has also worked for the Piano Guys in the past. Shumway is rather happy about it: “He did an amazing job, wedding my music with the grandeur of the environment”.
