We’ve been following the work of Jakob Kupferberg, aka Jakob The Liar, since early last year, and the consensus is growing stronger that he is a simply ridiculously gifted artist and musician. Hailing from Denmark though currently based in London, Jakob’s most recent release is a heart-on-sleeve and life-affirming tune that transcends genres. “‘Sunchild is a song about starting over,” he says. “Wherever you’re at in life, whatever you’re going through – I wrote this song to remind everyone (and myself) that it’s never too late to turn things around.“
With a progressive touch, the track’s arrangement effortlessly incorporates elements of folk, world music, orchestral, and indie-pop. It serves as another prime example of Jakob’s knack for concocting genre-fluid and profound music and, before you are fully aware, four and a half minutes have completely passed you by.
Written in Cape Town (my home!) on a summer’s day, ‘Sunchild’ is more than just another tune; it’s a healing and alleviating journey.
