Jackson Mathod Gears Up for Upcoming EP with Jazz Jewel ‘Mandible’

Often hailed as one of modern jazz’s upcoming prospects, Jackson Mathod is far from fitting into a specific mould. Boasting musical studies at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama and a performance opportunity alongside acclaimed rapper Stormzy, the London-based multi-instrumentalist has always enjoyed navigating the frontiers between conventional jazz stylings and hip-hop grooves, riding the same eclectic trend that’s taken over the whole modern jazz scene.

Following up on the 2022 EP’s ‘Miles Deep’, Mathod proudly announces his comeback record, expected for late January. ‘Mandible’ is the single that anticipates it, a preview of Jackson’s undeniable holistic artistry, a slice of funk-jazz drenched in popular references and approachable harmonic solutions.

Feeling at home with a trumpet or at a piano, the London-based talent builds a compelling case for any keen listeners. Over a bouncy, wonky drum groove, Mathod layers boundary-pushing electric piano solos with evocative and deep trumpet explorations, in what’s effectively a modern take on his jazz heroes, including the likes of Miles Davis, Roy Hargrove and Christian Scott, among others.
