Italian Rock Outfit The Backlash Gear Up for UK Tour

Describing their sound as “somewhere between psychedelic rock, shoegazing sounds and Britpop melodies”, rowdy Italian outfit The Backlash don’t leave a lot to the imagination. Yet, if one listens closely, their material also carries a certain ‘southern’ flair, so to speak, a quality that’s perhaps obvious in their latest release, ‘Anemone’. A cover of Brian Jonestown Massacre, the record finds its unmistakably sleazy, laidback and ‘big riff energy’ character thanks to The Backlash’s fuzzy guitars, wrapping the original version into a more distorted, striking livery.

Hailing from Milan, the Italian creatives have been now active for the past decade, gracing their homeland with spacious, monumental tones steeped and a charming international attitude. Sung in English, the band’s catalogue is bound to connect with any keen shoegaze/alt-rock listener. There’s a reason why they are embarking on a UK tour this week: it’s time for them to take a giant leap into new territories.

Here are their upcoming UK dates:

Feb 20 Hull (UK) – The New Adelphi Club

Feb 21 Kingston-Upon-Thames (UK) – The Fighting Cocks / Tape It Shut

Feb 22 Bromsgrove (UK) – The Boat Shack

Feb 23 Leeds (UK) – Northern Guitars (afternoon show)

Speaking about the reasoning behind their rendition of ‘Anemone’, The Backlash explain: “It is one of the few songs that aren’t ours that we decided to bring to the live shows. We’ve never played covers, not even at the beginning, but with this song it was different. It’s part of our musical DNA: each of us knows it by heart, almost carved into the subconscious, so much so that playing it has always come naturally.”
