Introspective Artistry in Koala Bar’s ‘Pas de Bourrée

When we first approached Koala Bar, we had no idea what to expect. Slightly mysterious at first glance, the talented Swedish group quickly grew on us, thanks to their unique and authentic sonic formula, turning cloudy folk-rock and pop sensibilities into a friendly, relatable package. From their high-level musicianship to their empowering lyricism, everything works in unison, for the greater good. The results – as you could imagine – are delicious.

Describing Koala Bar as a ‘sound’ (or a concept) more than a ‘figure’, the four Swedes are not afraid to pursue raw, unfiltered artistic research, patiently waiting for the right song to come along. The latest product of this fierce journey takes the shape of ‘Pas de Bourrée’, an introspective glimpse into the band’s metaphorical universe: “High, we are flying to the moon / Where time is on our side / As we’re jumping through the hoops / In a way I can’t describe”.

While their lyrical matter is notable, more revealing is the way they wrap it in a supporting arrangement, never overpowering their evocative, haunting lead vocals. Tame drums and arpeggiated guitars reign supreme, creating the most mellow and soothing sonic formula.

A worthy record from Koala Bar, a project worth following. ‘Pas de Bourrée’ is out now on Rexius Record.
