Icelandic musicians Arna Run Omarsdottir, Bjartmar Thordarson and Tinna Kristinsdottir present the launch of their new band TAB with their debut release ‘Keep It Simple’ – an upbeat electronic track calling people to keep it simple, free their mind and “leave it all behind”.
Each coming from different musical backgrounds and projects, the band members met at a songwriting camp where they bonded over their love for 90’s retro pop and dance music that doesn’t take itself too seriously. During the camp, the three began writing ‘Keep It Simple’, the song that would later become their debut release. The new single introduces their integrated sound, combining elements from 90’s dance music, millennial pop and current electro.
Inspired by the COVID-19 lockdowns and the shift in lifestyle it brought to many of us going from the modern-day rat race to a complete standstill, the band couldn’t help but ask themselves whether slowing down was what the world actually needed. They share the meaning behind their new song saying, “Some people experienced a strong sense of freedom by slowing down and the lyrics contemplate if simplicity might be the cure we all need to tackle modern-day life”.
The danceable track does have a distinct late 90’s sound, relating to the dance music scene and the electronic euro-pop of the time, while integrating a softer vocal style that links past and current trends. There are sections in the song that throw me back to the Black Eyed Peas’ glory days, with some of the main segments featuring powerful, tuned female vocals under a repetitive electronic rhythm.
The song is short and sweet, it’s an easy tune to listen to and brighten your day with.
