Icarus Phoenix Release Utterly Exceptional New Album ‘I Should Have Known the Things You Never Said’

Written by Drew Danburry in 2021 and 2022, ‘I Should Have Known the Things You Never Said’ is the remarkable new studio album from Baltimore-based four-piece Icarus Phoenix. Recorded in Utah with producer Jed Jones (Post Malone, The Killers), the band’s latest offering is a deeply personal and heartfelt one. “We’ve all dealt with sadness. With difficulties in life. That’s what this album is about,” says Danburry.

‘The Things You Never Told Me’ serves as the record’s opener, and beautifully sets the tone for the rest of the album. With a dreamy, shoegazy, indie-rock vibe and some exceptional vocal harmonies, it marks the beginning of an emotional and evocative journey.

‘Live. Give. Lose. Grow.’ is a rocky and immersive anthem that sends shivers down one’s spine, while ‘High Tide’ brings forth a more laidback sonic experience reminiscent of The Shins or Belle and Sebastian.

‘In The Blood’ is a simply stunning tune from start to finish, and ‘Doctor! Doctor!‘ reminds us why we first fell in love with Icarus Phoenix.

The remaining four tracks are ones which I shall leave you to discover for yourself. What I will say, however, is that ‘I Should Have Known the Things You Never Said’ is my favourite album of the year so far – and that’s not a statement I make lightly.
