Roland has been rather busy this year: keen readers might remember him from a recent feature we published, highlighting Ian’s previous effort ‘Lodestone’. We proudly described it as a “warm, rich, and comforting tune”, a quality that seems to be pretty common in the English troubadour’s catalogue. ‘The Beacon’ keeps it true, unveiling once again a stunningly evocative single, a soothing and generous slice of sonic honey.
Roland’s latest effort, ‘The Beacon’ seems to want to double down on what makes the project a productive standout: from the poignant, elegant melodies to the organic, soulful arrangements that support Ian’s gentle vocals perfectly. Lyrically, the song reflects its blissful livery: appreciating the simple yet intense beauty of nature, ‘The Beacon’ celebrates the Adonis Blue Butterfly and the landscape of the South Downs National Park, near Hassocks, UK.
That’s a man that appreciates the small things in life. Roland knows – as we do, writing this – that nature is the only godly force in this world – and that it should be experienced more. When one does experience it more, artistic inspiration tends to show its benevolent face, as is the case with ‘The Beacon’.
