I Forget Myself Delivers Masterful New Album ‘Some Err then Winter’

Apart from being a contender for album title of the year, ‘Some Err then Winter’ has also been one of my favourite discoveries of the year. An eleven-track adventure into alternative rock, the record comes courtesy of a South African-born, Hong Kong-based singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer who goes by the moniker I Forget Myself. Huge sounds, absorbing rhythms, and intricate arrangements give the album depth, and keep listeners engaged from start to finish!

‘Everything As It Should Be’ gets the ball rolling in truly epic fashion, with gritty, headbanging guitar riffs. The artist’s distant, almost secluded vocals then appear, offering an eerie and captivating presence that sets the tone for the rest of the record.

‘Osmanthus’ is another hard-hitting piece of sonic brilliance, and ‘Eureka’ delivers a thunderous eruption that showcases the ridiculous drumming ability of Kyle Reece Williams.

‘Season Without Song’ follows a similar vein to its predecessors, before ‘Sweetness’ offers up something a little different, demonstrating the musician’s ability to get experimentative with his sonic palette.

Other personal favourites include ‘Empire,’ It’s Not As It Should Be,’ and the album’s closer ‘Consequences’. A truly remarkable listen, ‘Some Err then Winter’ is a masterpiece of modern alternative rock.
