We are fairly familiar with hyyypnos, having written about him a couple of times in this very same publication. Not everyone makes a lasting impression in our memory (we are busy, after all), but the American hip-hop explorer certainly did. The talented creative’s latest effort, the track builds on a formula that works very well: hip-hop and RnB stylings with a wide array of textures and spacious vocals, making for a listening experience that’s luscious and passionate, yet weirdly ethereal and expansive.
Borrowing artificial-sounding vocals from hyper-pop – together with a sense of ever-evolving otherworldliness – ‘EARN THIS’ sees hyyypnos delving into the dark corners of love. As he explains: “the song is about a toxic relationship where real affection is traded for a fictitious sense of security”.
