What do you get when you mix video game music, bitpop, extreme metal and jazz?
‘COCOJOEY’S WORLD’.
COCOJOEY is a classically-trained pianist, hyper-pop artist and a whimsical personality who finds comfort in quirky and eccentric sound combinations as a way of facing existential pain. The vibrant artist has just released his brand-new debut album, ‘COCOJOEY’S WORLD’, and it feels like one massive sugar rush after another. The album is full of energetic saw synths, programmed beats, and heavily pitched and altered vocals, creating a robotic computerized effect with video game samples that result in a world of electronic extravagance.
If you ask me, one thing that can be said about COCOJOEY’S WORLD is that it’s incredibly unpredictable. The artist incorporates what feels like a tremendous number of elements that shift rapidly from one section to another in unconventional song structures. Saying that, COCOJOEY does manage to create a cohesive body of work with a clear message through this hyperactive electronic soundscape.
My favourite track on the album is ‘BEST FRIENDS’. Following a series of heavy-hitting tracks, this song seems to be a lighter perspective of COCOJOEY’s concepts and themes, and I found myself conceptually relating to it the most.
Needless to say, COCOJOEY’s latest release ‘COCOJOEY’S WORLD’ is a one-of-a-kind explosion of colours that you should definitely check out on Spotify now:
