There’s more than meets the eye in ‘Rehab Rock’. You see, while the record’s sonic livery engages in playful indie rock with a certain pop flavouring, its lyricism reveals a much deeper picture. The story of a man fighting his own demons, successfully turning his life around and using art as a cathartic tool for healing. HOT MUD found himself at The Sobriety House Treatment Facility in Ottawa, Canada, and was given a chance to start again.
He did so by getting clean and writing a rock album; it is such humanity that allows the record to be fragile and relatable, yet fierce and nuanced. Sonically, the listener is treated to a guitar-powered, eclectic extravaganza, exploring indie and psych territories with a keen eye for tradition. In fact, this is a pretty accessible album, aimed at a wide audience.
‘Rehab Rock’ is the Canadian’s songster debut effort, featuring nine tracks that extensively recall HOT MUD’s personal journey with addiction and recovery. A meaningful record that will hopefully inspire whoever might need some… inspiration.
