Emerging from Germany, Hope are one of those projects that thrive in empowering tradition to create a highly futuristic sound. More often engaging in darkwave, postpunk and nuanced electro indie, the Berlin-based group has made a name for themselves thanks to their unique, quirky and experimental offerings. In fact, Hope are steadily walking down a dark, evocative leftfield path, constantly switching between haunting organic drums and icy drum machines, fuzzy guitars and brainiac synthetisers.
Now, the band presents their latest effort, the stunning darkwave gem ‘OSMOSIS’. The piece comes with a dedicated music video, a collaboration with British artist and underwater cinematographer Emma Critchley, whose images form the artwork and all videos to the album. A fitting visual contour for such an eerie, complex record. Built over a simple rhythmic loop, ‘OSMOSIS’ offers a tapestry of textures and nostalgic synths, highlighting the cathartic functions of Christine Börsch-Supan’s lead vocals.
Delving into the lyricism behind the song, Hope explain: “The song tells a personal story of conception and the struggles and obstacles of coming into life. At the same time, it reflects on life evolving by itself, finding freedom and celebration in that.”
