We LOVE to get lost in music. There’s something particularly attractive in losing one’s sense of reality, completely escaping into the aural information that is being provided. ‘You Are Not a Wallflower’ is a textbook case of escapism and abstraction. Aided by the record’s liquid and eclectic sonic livery, we managed to completely lose ourselves in it, heavily transported by its cathartic and transformative character.
Introduced by digital, glitchy beats, ‘You Are Not a Wallflower’ feels almost pointillistic in the beginnings, with a wealth of textures and fine soundscapes setting a profoundly pulsating vibe. Soon enough, an otherworldly synthesizer breaks the aural canvas, bringing evocative energy and dissonance to an already compelling formula. The record then fades out to heavily processed guitar and pluck samples.
Citing Four Tet and Boards of Canada as some of his strongest influences, New Zealander Hominid has been deep at work within the realm of electronic experimentation. The results of his output are clearly on display here, marking the project as a standout in the leftfield global landscape.
