Upon listening to ‘The Floor’, we can confidently say that we are hooked. The latest single by Manchester-based alt-rock outfit Hollows, the track is an intense yet nuanced listening experience, contrasting fierce, bright guitars with charming and fuzzy vocals, making for a rather energetic sound, almost chaotic at times – controlled chaos, as we’d define it.
A haunting, dark and noisy synthesiser seems to join the party towards the end, signalling that Hollows is not just your typical alt-rock band. A vocal scream in the end really shuffles their references, making sure the song is as eclectic as it can. Masterful.
Having been around for a few years, the British group has been going through various lineups; their current form appears to be a very comfortable place for their creativity. Featuring head honcho Sean Davies, Dan Dyson and Jack Barnes, perhaps Hollows have reached their final form. From what we have heard so far, we’d say they are now the best they have ever been. Stay tuned.
