Sharing a debut record is always a crucial moment for an artist’s career. You see, it takes boldness and courage – after all, it’s akin to sharing an intimate part of yourself with the wider world. Hilliker knows it well, having just unveiled his debut single, ‘Deep Highs’, a euphoric yet expressive deep house and EDM offering. Built on cathartic atmospheres and a dancy, energetic beat, the track successfully blends club-oriented sweatiness with elegant and soothing tones, making for a listening experience that’s eclectic and quirky.
The sonic recipe is rather precise and even minimal at times, with a flurry of dazzling arpeggiators and emotional synths alongside charming vocal samples and catchy melodies. It’s a perfect formula for a record that doesn’t pretend to be what it isn’t: simply, it’s a club-ready anthem, one that manages to conserve a certain haunting and leftfield character in it.
Working on his laptop and on the move, Hilliker is certainly positive about the future: “Over the course of the next year, I’m going to be regularly self-releasing a lot of new music that I’ve finished”. We look forward to checking out what’s next, being confident that the English producer will get better and better with every new release.
