It’s rather hard to describe what High Protein stands for. You see, the project is an ever-evolving, dynamic sonic machine, constantly exploring the boundaries of contemporary electronica and ambient music. More simply though, one could look at the British producer’s outlook as a blank canvas, a space where sounds can be freely painted, not following any formulas or norms. It is not codified: High Protein is as original and authentic as it can be.
The latest offering from the sound wizard that is High Protein takes the title of ‘Cybele’, and it’s a stunning journey through fuzzy synthesisers, mangled tribal percussions, ethereal vocal samples and hypnotising orchestral memoirs. It’s a flow of consciousness, a journey through the deepest corner of human consciousness. It’s a consentient bath into transformative, gooey sonic energy, the kind of experience that can make or break a personality.
Lucky for us, we got out unscathed. In fact, the listening experience greatly enriched us, showing us that music doesn’t necessarily have to follow trends or recipes, but it can just freely exist in the space-time continuum. For that alone, we are grateful to High Protein, a truly deserving creative in a sea of boredom and copycats.
