Helena May Reiterates Her Artistry in ‘Still Here’

Marking a departure from Helena May‘s previous fierce and punchy musical persona, ‘Still Here’ seeks to find a lighter and softer way forward. It works extremely well: the Welsh songstress’ evocative and luscious tone is the perfect match for the soulful and groovy instrumental, moving at a moderate pace along contemporary R&B and British Soul (and a touch of acid jazz). The keen reader will gladly remember May, we are particularly fond of her here at Mesmerized.

‘Still Here’ truly impresses us, especially for the high degree of musicianship in it; of course, the production is of the highest level, with beautifully sounding drums and a plethora of keys, a brilliant bassline and hidden textures. Helena’s powerful yet delicate tone is on full display here, crowning the songs and stealing the listeners’ attention with nostalgic and relatable lyricism.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, she explains: “Extending a helping-hand, tapping into the realm of individuality and offering an uplifting, optimistic experience that encourages valuable space for self-reflection.”
