Writing about Heavy Drunk last year, we proudly declared him as “embodying the true, authentic spirit of the American outback”. It was the perfect description for a project steeped in Americana and Country flavourings, balanced among bluesy fierceness, playful brass stylings and more evocative ballads. ‘You Don’t Know Me’ was the album that originally caught our attention.
Now, Heavy Drunk seeks to launch his upcoming UK tour by sharing a single from the same record, ‘Love & Devotion. The tour in question will feature Watermelon Slim and Leonardo Giuliani, this October, and it’s a rare occasion to see Heavy Drunk live on this side of the Atlantic (we are UK-based too).
A truly evocative and passionate offering, ‘Love & Devotion’ is a stunning bluesy ballad drenched in brass energy and soulful electric pianos. Heavy Drunk’s charming and raw vocals draw the listeners into a relatable lyrical journey. As he explains: “The song asks what happened to the compassion and civility we used to treat each other within a call for peace between neighbours”.
