Hazel Returns with Positive Gem ‘Lilac&Purple’

Emerging from South London, Hazel champions a short yet punchy artistic career, having debuted only last year with ‘Scream’, a single that, at the time, we proudly described as “a gentle, slightly anthemic pop gem, building an intimate, refined instrumental over which the talented artist can flex her perfect, luscious vocals, often greeted by charming harmonies”. A year later, she has already followed that up with two EPs, a sign that the project is steadily growing. ‘Lilac&Purple’ is Hazel’s latest record, a slice of gentle and soothing indie-pop, boasting a certain organic and acoustic flair.

The sonic environment is rather light, featuring acoustic guitar and light drums, drenched in veiled textures and angelic harmonies. Hazel’s vocals seal the deal, so evocative yet soulful. Yet again a collaborative effort with creative partner Alex Rigueiro, ‘Lilac&Purple’ is a limitless bundle of joy, one of those songs that might not jump out a playlist at first, but that over time becomes an absolute favourite.

Lyrically, Hazel draws inspiration from the simple moments in life, sharing stories of everyday living. In Lilac&Purple, everything stemmed from having observed a man in a local park. As she explains: “My latest single Lilac&Purple tells the story of a day in the life of a man I once saw in my local park. He was sitting there in his armchair and I found this so unusual it inspired me to think about how he might spend the rest of his day.”
