Haunting Pop-Rock Queen Juliet Callahan Shares New Gem ‘Ghost Girl’

Unveiling her newest pop banger, Juliet Callahan confirms what her listeners might already know: there’s talent here. Debuting in 2021, the American talent built a charming identity over a modern brand of pop-rock, one that’s closely related to hip-hop-derived beats and trap influences. In a way, you could say that Callahan successfully synthesises the best of the mainstream universe into a luscious, emotional and gritty package. And we’re here for it!

‘Ghost Girl’ is the latest release from the Los Angeles resident, following up on a rather productive year. In it, the listener can expect a musical amalgamation of pop-rock, grunge, and trap, namely inspired by the likes of Lil Peep. What’s notable, is how Juliet is listed as a co-producer on it, signalling a step up in her creative journey. Describing the lyrical inspiration behind the record, Callahan explains: “The song is written in the third person and tells the story of a young woman who has experienced a lot of hardship, but has come out the other side stronger, wiser, and more independent. The idea for the song came from the concept of a “Ghost Girl,” which to me represents the ghost of a woman who used to put other people’s needs before her own.”

Introduced by a haunting, alt-flavoured guitar riff, the track proceeds into slow-pace bouncy grooves, sharing a certain gloomy and icy character. Dark is the keyword here, with the chorus bringing euphoria and resolution into the mix. Callahan’s vocals are precise, evocative and intense, perfectly matching the sonic matter around them. Overall, a great record from an interesting artist. Looking forward to hearing more.
