Earlier this year we found ourselves writing about Harlow Reign’s debut single ‘Forbidden Forever’, ending the article with an important promise: “The future, for Harlow Reign, appears rather bright.” We stand by our words: the Australian songstress is certainly unique and highly personal in terms of songwriting flair and vocal prowess. ‘Long Way Home’ is the strongest evidence of that, a tune that moves into a decisively more uplifting, fierce direction.
Reign’s latest effort, ‘Long Way Home’ signals the Kalkallo-based creative’s return to the music scene, in what’s a compelling change of pace for the project. Built on a cinematic, anthemic production, the track flourishes on striking percussions and evocative melodies, only to then explode into an energetic pop-rock aura during the choruses. Harlow Reign’s luscious, dynamic vocals are a perfect match for such a vibrant offering, especially for the multitude of harmonies and relatable melodies.
What’s more, ‘Long Way Home’ features a Fleetwood Mac sample from ‘Go Your Own Way’, a feature that the most educated listeners will have certainly picked up by now. Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, ‘Harlow Reign explains: “It tells a poignant story of finding light in the darkness through the presence of someone or something special.”
