Emerging from Detroit, Happy Curmudgeons are a hidden slice of happiness. Championing a decisively wholesome and nostalgic outlook, the group seems to privilege relatable lyricism over instrumental prowess. Over a rather simple acoustic arrangement, Happy Curmudgeons deliver their latest effort, the stunning single ‘All On You’.
Anticipating the band’s second album – ‘2nd Chances’ – expected later this year, the song seeks to invite listeners to reflect on the impact of their actions and how they shape their own destiny; written by head honcho Jeff Warner over two decades ago, the record finally found its way to us, perhaps due to its relevance in our complex and unpredictable reality.
Core members Dave Hamilton, Amy Dixon-Lavery and session musicians Takashi Iio and Todd Glass complete a talented line-up. It’s an ensemble that doesn’t lose itself in vain stylings or endless arrangements. Instead, the band works in the function of a song, something you don’t see every day, at least at this level. With their acoustic, Americana-flavoured charm and poignant lyrics, Happy Curmudgeons promise to take listeners on a nostalgic and intense journey – will you join them?
