Gus Defelice Showcases His Guitar Prowess in ‘Starlight’

We are honestly impressed by Gus Defelice’s instrumental prowess. Championing an eclectic progressive metal outlook, the London-based musician particularly excels when expressing himself through intricate guitar techniques and fast-paced riffing. Inspired by the likes of Dream Theater, Gojira, Alcest, and Mastodon, Gus doesn’t seek to reinvent the wheel. Instead, he wants to master it. And so he does.

‘Starlight’ is the perfect evidence of that, a five-minute-long guitar solo showcasing all the technical proficiency Defelice has to offer. Introduced by haunting, gloomy soundscapes, the record soon transforms into a prog-metal powerhouse, yet maintaining a certain elegance, a certain gusto, if you will. Making ample use of dynamic changes, ‘Starlight’ also tells a story, albeit one that’s bound to mean different things to different listeners.

Sharing his own vision over the track, Defelice eloquently explains: “‘Starlight’ is about finding light in the most unexpected places. It’s about facing life’s inevitable changes and discovering resilience and beauty in the process. When I composed it, I wanted to capture the essence of transformation and hope. My goal was to remind you that even on the darkest nights, the stars shine brightest.”
