The keen reader will remember Elad David, guitar virtuoso and gifted composer from Israel. We interviewed him back in the summer when he was gearing up for his biggest release to date, a self-defined ‘concept EP’: ‘The Big Picture’. What can you expect from it? Well, nothing you already know. Prepare to be positively stunned, taken aback by a whirlwind of musical goodness, a multi-genre, kaleidoscopic concoction of sonic material.
Essentially, we could define the record as progressive fusion, a free-form stream of consciousness. In it, David pours out all his artistic prowess, blending jazz roots with more electronic elements. Alternating drum machines to soulful horns and funky guitars, ‘The Big Picture’ represents a step into the unknown, a journey of self-discovery that will have you falling into a child-like trance, ready to observe, rejoice and learn.
Of course, that’s not for everyone. If mainstream pop is all you are used to, you might find Elad’s record too complex, too obscure. It is a record aimed at the music connoisseur, the one who can understand the various references scattered throughout the EP. From the electro-fusion of ‘Funky Smell’ to the mellow, soul-infused vibes of ‘A Different View’, you’ll be surprised by David’s ability to blend jazz, rock and more modern elements into new and exciting sonic matter. We definitely were.
