Guilherme Cosme Shares Introspective and Solemn Record ‘They Call Me Names’

Some records are purely commercial – made as a mere entertaining medium. Others are truly majestic works of art, collections of pieces that have been carefully crafted by their authors, full of meaning and transformative power. The latter is exactly the case for ‘They Call Me Names’, the latest effort by Brazilian composer and songwriter Guilherme Cosme. Now based in Ireland, the talented creative champions an utterly kaleidoscopic artistry, balanced on orchestral tones, pop lyricism, Jazz formulas and an overall flair for pushing the boundaries of conventional music.

‘They Call Me Names’ is first and foremost a complete dive into Cosme’s personal experience, a journey into his deepest consciousness. Over a stunning 13 tracks, we are able to get to know fragile and nuanced tales of a troubling childhood, spanning abuse and neglect. As the album progresses, we become familiar with their overspill into adulthood, showcasing how the human being is a result of his development.

Of course, this is not a record for everybody: one must be in the right state of mind to be able to enjoy it fully – Cosme is opening his heart to us, after all. The least we can do is to devote him our full attention. And we will. What about you?
