There is a lot to unpack about Growing Boi’s musical journey; but as always, we’ll start with what really matters, the music. You see, the Brighton-based musician’s ability to craft poignant, intimate and introspective pieces is virtually unmatched. Having shared one single in 2021 and one the year after, a common pattern was introduced. Reflective and fragile Folk matter, creating gentle and soothing soundscapes that fully support Growing Boi’s beautiful vocals, exuding grace and elegance, while pursuing their strong dreamy character.
Now, the Irish talent returns with a brand new offering, ‘Overflow’. Continuing on his path towards musical Olympus, Growing Boi delivers a stunning piece that’s not only vocally alluring, but also innovative in its sound design. A soulful electric piano provides the skeleton to a decisively ethereal track, with imperceptible percussions helping Growing Boi’s fuzzy and lo-fi vocal tone.
How is he so good? Well, the human behind the project is a true master, in the figure of multi-talented musician and producer Christopher Matthewson. Having toured with some of the biggest names in indie music, such as The National and City and Colour, he uses Growing Boi as his personal expressive outlet, releasing a wealth of material accumulated over the last few years.
