Ground-Breaking Artist AIKO TOMI Returns With Synthwave-Inspired Banger ‘Fit’

The keen reader will remember Canadian breaking force AIKO TOMI from a feature we did not long ago, celebrating her single ‘Handful’. Strongly championing her Asian heritage, the kaleidoscopic creative has managed to build a brand of bubbly, provocative and edgy pop, blending electronica and hip-hop into exuberant, authentic and fresh sonic matter. We wrote about her: “The hyper/alt-pop artist is unapologetically and effortlessly fierce, funnelling all her energy into a simple, chaotic sound.”

Standing behind our words, we stan TOMI’s latest effort, ‘Fit’. In it, the Torontonian shuffles the cards quite a fair bit, navigating a modern take on a vintage 80s aesthetic. Think synthwave and The Weeknd. Produced once again by Andrew Rasmussen, the track explores a different side of AIKO, navigating personal lyricism and experiences themed around the difficulty of understanding each other flaws, and how special it can be when someone actually connects to them.

Introduced by a catchy riff, ‘Fit’ soon meets the listener with a heaven of synthesisers and drum machines, sustaining a fast-paced arrangement drenched in arpeggiators and brilliant leads. This brilliant musical framework provides the perfect background for TOMI’s evocative, otherwordly vocals, particularly shining into the punchy, memorable chorus.

Overall, a mesmerising record from a talented visionary. Looking forward to follow her journey in the future.

For now though, stream ‘Fit’ on Spotify:
