Following the tragic death of their drummer Glen, Australian-based indie-rock act greenhouse took something of a hiatus for a while. Nowadays, however, they are spurred on by that tragedy, and their brand new single ‘god-like’ proves that they are ready to hit the ground running again. A classic indie-rock tune in every sense, ‘god-like’ is an infectious, lively, melodic, and powerful anthem. Lyrically, greenhouse deal with the arrogant patriarchy, a system that is inherently unbalanced, and the hope that the younger generation will eventually rise up and take that power back.
‘god-like’ serves as the first of a string of singles that greenhouse will be releasing in anticipation of their long-awaited debut album. The album, recorded in Australia, was mixed and mastered in the UK by heavyweight producers Barny Barnicott and Streaky Gee. The two have worked alongside giant acts like Arctic Monkeys, Sam Fender, Kasabian, The 1975, and Snow Patrol.
A special shoutout has to go to Michael Ormond Robinson, greenhouse’s frontman, who puts on a scintillating vocal display on the track. Genuine, heartfelt, and compelling. I’m so grateful to have stumbled across ‘god-like’, and simply can’t wait to hear the full album upon its release!
