Graffick Delves into Leftfield Electronica with ‘Black Light’

‘Black Light’ is the kind of track I love writing about. Or rather, the kind of track I love listening to. With a hypnotising sonic palette served with psychedelic flair and ethereal energy, the single is bound to wrap the listeners in personal reflection and musical abstraction, allowing each one of them to interpret ‘Black Light’ in their own unique ways.

Built over misty leftfield electronica stylings, the record doesn’t necessarily have a fixed meaning – rather, it works as a facilitating agent for artistic reckoning, essentially being a piece of music that needs to be felt, rather than narrated. Even this review won’t do it justice: while ‘Black Light’ layers its arpeggios and cathartic vocal samples on us, we cannot help but perhaps fall short of expectations.

The truth is, Graffick makes some real magic here. Echoing the likes of Four Tet, Bonobo and Jon Hopkins, among others, the American artist exposes his own value and unique character, a triumph of colours and textures that’s as exciting as it is memorable.
