Golem Dance Cult’s Gloomy and Industrial Record ‘Legend of the Bleeding Heart’

We have recently featured Golem Dance Cult, focusing on their newly-released video for ‘21st Century Dogs’, a track we proudly described as: “gloomy, smoky and industrial, really delving into its haunting quality”. Now, the British duo unveils their full album ‘Legend of the Bleeding Heart’, a super-charged manifesto of everything they stand for: from dark new-wave gems to noisy and fuzzy rock’n’roll, passing through veiled synth-pop stylings.

Defining their approach to music as “a rock-based approach without the formal structure of the genre and bringing an electronic approach in the layering of the tracks”, Golem Dance Cult reveal everything we needed to know, allowing us to jump into ‘Legend of the Bleeding Heart’ with an informed ear. Opening with an instrumental prologue, the record then serves us ‘Dalek Rethoric’, a piece that’s as energetic and punchy as it is distorted and haunting.

‘Schadenfreude Addict’ is perhaps one of our favourite episodes in the album, letting us appreciate the malleable and otherworldly vocals of Golem Dance Cult, oscillating between melodious and light growling. The record goes on into a triumph of alternative references, bound to dazzle even the most experienced of listeners. Defining their own sound as ‘Industrial Dance Rock’, the British pair seems to have clear ideas about where they are going – stay tuned.
