The keen reader might remember reading about God from the Machine in our publication earlier this year, when we featured ‘The River’ a gem packed with emotional energy and relatability. At the time, we proudly declared: “They instantly showcased a knack for poignant, expressive rock music, gracefully infused with pop elements.” We stand by our words, with the British duo exhibiting the same artistic prowess in their latest effort, the stunning semi-ballad ‘Somebody Lost’.
Why semi-ballad? Well, it’s mellow, poignant and thought-provoking, wrapped in textures and guitar sweetness. But, more punchy and furious grooves join the song at times, making it a rather energetic number. Delving deeper into the origin of the record, we found out that it started originally as a stripped-down composition, something that makes a lot of sense, given the final result. The perfect blend of emotional lyricism and instrumental fierceness.
Talents Sam Dyche and Joe Shanks are slowly building a project that feels authentic and universal, aimed at a wide audience. We are confident they’ll be able to connect with a lot of people out there. Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, they explain: “Themes of loneliness and detachment are explored through the lyrics to create an introspective lens that focuses on the emotions experienced during a period of isolation from those around you.”
