go4broke Returns With Bubbly Yet Deep Gem ‘don’t speak’

Good pop has always been hard to come by. It might seem easy at first, but writing catchy, relatable melodies with modern flair is not something for everyone. Luckily, we have peeps that know what they are doing, artists that clearly have a natural gift for songwriting. One of those talents is go4broke, Philadelphia solo outfit with a knack for modern, bubbly and poignant pop. After debuting last year with electro-pop gem ‘california’, he’s been on a very productive streak, culminating with ‘mad’, a 6-track EP released earlier in March.

This week, go4broke opens a new chapter in his artistic journey, with the release of ‘don’t speak’, a new single that’s laying the groundwork for an upcoming second EP. At first listen, it appears as if the sonic direction has slightly changed. ‘don’t speak’ is considerably more upbeat than its predecessors, focusing on a bubbly disco beat, funky guitars and a more natural vocal tone. The songwriting is excellent. Uplifting, fierce and extremely contemporary, melodies are the record’s strength, especially when it comes to the chorus. So glorious!

What’s to note, go4broke write and produces all the music by himself, an impressive feature given the quality of his output. Describing ‘don’t speak’ as a ‘social anxiety anthem’, the Phialdelphia resident takes the listener on a journey through inner fears and personal challenges. It’s quite a stark contrast with the light-hearted nature of the instrumental. That’s where go4broke’s genius is.
