Go Sonny Introduces Herself with Rich and Synthy EP ‘And No Birds Sing’

I’m not sure what it is about this year and unbelievable debut releases, but we’re back with another spellbinding beauty called ‘And No Birds Sing’! Courtesy of French musician Go Sonny, the artist introduces herself to the world with a mesmerising five-track EP that leaves you desperate for more. An exceptional amalgamation of indie-pop, synthwave, and electro, the EP is, as the musician describes, “a musical retrospective of my twenties, embodying this pivotal decade with its multiple questions and the quest for ideal”. Having grown up on a steady diet of Kate Bush’s music and Michael Mann’s films, Go Sonny’s first offering is an intimate, colourful, atmospheric, and deeply immersive record.

What impressed me so much was the flow of the EP. The artist has clearly thought long and hard about the song placement, a vital aspect of putting a record together that I think is often overlooked. ‘Opening’ sets things up perfectly, before ‘Mess’ comes in with that synthy, bassy, ethereal goodness!

‘Over the Haze’ could be my favourite track off the EP, but obviously to each their own! I just love that unexpected transition to a more rocky sound! ‘The Smell of Dreams’ and ‘Dark Witch Day’ round off the album, and I’m jealous that you get to discover them for the first time! What a debut!
