‘Close In October’ is one of the most beautiful little tunes I’ve heard all year, and I don’t make that statement lightly. Courtesy of the transcontinental act Ginko Bugs, the rich and nostalgia-laced track has a timeless feel to it. A melodic time capsule if you will, it’s a song that captures the essence of those feel-good tunes that ruled the airwaves decades ago.
A blend of power pop and art rock, the ode to lost love is wonderfully textured and vibrant. An introspective and emotive piece of music, ‘Close In October’ is a heartfelt exploration of loneliness and love. “The song is about the fear of being left alone and the desire to try to find the love that once was there,” says the band. “If we just had a little bit more time to let our feelings grow, then everything might be good again…or”?
Unsurprisingly influenced by the legends: The Beatles, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Tom Petty, Queen, etc, Ginko Bugs masterfully channels the spirit of the greats. Stamping their own modern twist on proceedings, they’ve concocted a sound that feels like an old friend returning after years apart.
Having already claimed a spot among my tracks of the year, I now can’t wait to dive deeper into Ginko Bug’s discography!
