Championing an eclectic and experimental outlook on music making, Gianfranco Pescetti truly manages to push the boundaries of modern electronica, balanced over nostalgic formulas and new idioms. If you have been following us for a while, you’ll be already familiar with Pescetti, Italian-born musician now residing in the US. Boasting a long militancy in the local music scene, he sought to innovate his artistic lifeline, doing so with clever compositions and researched sound design. Writing about him previously, we proudly declared: “The art of music has always been a medium for expression for the Tuscan musician, evoking different emotions and feelings from his listeners. A true master of his craft, Pescetti embodies years of hard work and dedication, now declined through modern and experimental material”.
‘The Wake’ is perhaps the biggest evidence of it. The project’s latest effort, the track delves once again into nuanced and refined electronica, building spacious, ethereal beats and haunting, ever-evolving synth tones, while considering the occasional orchestral reference. There’s a strong focus on bass, even featuring a sort of ‘solo’, through a sound that strongly resembles an acoustic fretless instrument.
Pescetti knows what he’s doing: tricking our minds and senses, he guides us through a transformative journey of discovery and rebirth. It’s all echoed in the concept behind the song, express so well in the title: ‘The Wake’ celebrates letting go, and leaving your past behind.
