I was writing about expert musician Gianfranco GFN not long ago, praising ‘Sing the Song’ as “a stunning listening experience, nuanced and playful, drenched in eclecticism and musical prowess”. Now, the Swiss talent returns with his latest effort, an even more vibrant and eclectic offering titled ‘Are You Lost’. The acid-jazz vibe is strong in this one, incorporating soulful vocals and witty instrumental solutions for an extremely convincing fusion anthem.
Introduced by a timeless drum groove and an elegant organ, ‘Are You Lost’ further develops over an electric piano, a beautiful tenor saxophone and Gianfranco’s sapient guitar comping, supporting the track while remaining anchored to the rhythm. Vladimir Crabone’s glorious vocals crown the track perfectly, elevating the pathos and emotional factor in it.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the record’s lyricism, Gianfranco explains: “It tells the story of the loss and bewilderment of a person who seems lost in his life. The other observes this person, and in witnessing his concern and abandonment, he also recognizes his own sense of confusion and bewilderment”.
